Waiting on Wednesdays

At a Kenya trip reunion this August, the participants recognized that right now at Altadore we are in a position of waiting on God. We felt led to gather together once a month for a time of teaching, reflection, discussion and prayer. And so the birth of Waiting on Wednesdays. We would like to invite everyone (whether you have been to Kenya or not) to join us on the third Wednesday night of each month. We will be meeting in the church library from 7 to 8:30 pm. The dates for Waiting on Wednesdays are September 17, October 15, November 19 and December 17. All are welcome, so please join us as we wait together.

If you have any questions, please contact Lynn M or Pastor Paul at the church.

2nd Annual Calgary Stampeders Faith & Family Night

Saturday, Sept 13th, 5:00 game vs. Toronto Argos

$20.00/ticket (taxes included, normally $36.00 + tax)

It would be great to have a group of ALTADORE BAPTIST folk together in a non-snowy season! The Stampeders will be out on the field after the game, to meet & greet the ‘faithful’ and have a group picture taken. Also, if we have more than 25 in our group, we will be entered into a draw for Pizza Party with a Stampeder at our Church!

Please let Alicia A know ASAP if you would like to go, and how many tickets you would like!

SUMMER AT ALTADORE BAPTIST

You may notice that there haven't been a lot of new postings on our website.  In the summer, many of the regular ministries and programs of Altadore Baptist take a bit of a holiday to give our good folks time to rest and spend time with family and friends.  This doesn't mean there is nothing happening though.  Every Sunday, we still have our weekly worship services at 10:00 a.m.  In addition, August 1 is the first day of our new Transition Pastor, Paul Sharp. Please feel free to come and take part "in church".  The service sizes are smaller and more relaxed.  This you more of a chance to meet the people of Altadore.  Our fall programs and ministries will be up and running on starting in September

All Are Welcome!

Wellcome Change group is hosting a Barbeque on July 31 at 6:30PM at Jill &

Glenn M’s. We will also be able to visit with our new transitional pastor

Paul Sharp and his wife, Moreen. Wellcome Change members give a donation of

$25.00 to go towards a water project in Africa. Anyone else that would like to

give a donation of any amount is welcome.

Update from ABTS

Dear friends,

Greetings from the Arab Baptist Theological Seminary.

With the end of this academic year, we thank our Lord for His unfailing love that strengthens us, and allows us to remain steadfast in pursuing our mission to serve the Church in the Arab world. We also thank our partners and friends for standing by us as we strive to serve the Arab church by equipping effective leaders for ministry.

In the enclosed June issue of the ABTS newsletter, you will read about challenges of theological education in the Middle East as perceived by 3 Lebanese faculty, about our students’ ministry among Syrian refugee children, and about Prof. Perry Shaw’s new book, ‘Transforming Theological Education’.

On Sunday June 22, we will hold our graduation ceremony during which we will release 17 students to serve God across the Arab world. Join us in prayer for God to protect and strengthen them, because “the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.”

With every blessing,

 Wissam al-Saliby

2014 Lent Devotional Book

Lent is an important season of the year to nurture our inner life. It is the time during which we prepare ourselves to celebrate the mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus. As well, we celebrate the mystery of the death and resurrection which takes place within us. Lent is also the season, given to us by the Christian Church, structured to help make sense of this suffering and pain that must come in order for spiritual transformation to occur.

Henri Nouwen notes, “The death and resurrection of Jesus therefore is not just an historical event that took place a long time ago, but an inner event that takes place in our own heart when we are willing to be attentive to it. True repentance is an interior attitude in which we are willing to let go of everything that prevents us from growing into spiritual maturity, and there is hardly a moment in our lives in which we are not invited to detach ourselves from certain ways of thinking, ways of speaking, ways of acting, that for a long time gave us energy, but that always
again need to be reviewed and recreated.” (Taken from Called to Life, Called to Love)

For the ninth year, Altadore Baptist Church has gifted people within our church with a Lenten Devotional booklet which has been prepared by the people among us. Children, families, individuals and couples have hosted and reflected upon a Scripture passage chosen for each day. They listened to it, were blessed by its truth, and then shared their insights so that we can be encouraged and challenged for our own journey of faith. For this gift, we can all be grateful.

We trust that the 2014 Lenten Devotional will be a source of encouragement, blessing and guidance for your experience of spiritual transformation during this Lenten season.

A very grateful thank you to Colleen Milton and Ed Peasgood for collecting, printing, editing and collating this booklet.
