Following church on Sunday, May 3, noon until 1:00, You are invited to a lunch for newcomers to Altadore Baptist.
The lunch will provide you with an opportunity to share a meal with others who are new and also to learn a little more about our church. We hope you will join us!
Please let Nada R, Wendy B or the church office know if you are able to attend.
30 people have indicated interest in attending on Sundays (May 3, 10, 24, 31 and June 7) from 12:00 - 1:00 pm (bag lunch). Join us for “Vanishing Grace” by Phil Yancy. Please let Wendy F in the office know if you would need child care in order to attend.
Last week we announced that Altadore now has a Facebook page. Please know that the church leaders are actively discussing policies for confidentiality, and postings are currently limited to a just a couple of people. Talk to Wendy F in the office if you have questions.
If you are on Facebook, and want to see a couple of good examples of how Altadore can use this valuable tool, check out the Canadian Baptist Ministries page and the First Assembly page. If you aren’t a “Facebook-er”, don’t worry, you don’t need to be! We will still be sending out the current events and announcements emails and updating the website like before. This is just another tool for us to use to reach people and tell them about our church!
On Sunday April 19, we will have a “new” experience called the “Altadore Informal”. Many of you remember the days of adult electives and we are bringing it back!
Instead of having a worship service, we will be meeting in the gym at 10 am for an opportunity to choose between a CUPS presentation by Amanda St. Laurent, a seminar on different pathways for connecting with God by Pastor Paul, and a time of silence and solitude in the sanctuary. This will be a chance for everyone to engage with others in meaningful conversation about spiritual topics. This experience is about us encouraging and supporting each other in our spiritual walk.
Come for dessert and to share your thoughts with the Leadership Team and with Pastor Paul and Moreen on the future of Altadore Baptist Church.
At Roland and Linda R's home Saturday evening, April 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Please let Linda R or Wendy B know if you can attend.
We are looking forward to CBWC 2015 Assembly - The Gathering 2015, being held in Calgary at Westview Baptist Church, April 23-25, 2015. It is not only an important time in the life of our family of churches as we conduct business, it is a chance for us to gather together for profound teaching from keynote speakers. We also have a slate of excellent workshops that touch on our theme of Encountering God at Every Age. Lou Leventhal will be with us on Saturday evening with his famous travelling magic show Illusions & Reality.
It is a time for us to reflect and pray over how God would have us serve Him in the next few years and a time to worship and praise Him. We are excited about what God has in store for us at "The Gathering" and want as many people from CBWC churches to share in this as possible.
Register online today while there is still time http://cbwc.ca/event/gathering/ For those in the Calgary and surrounding area who may wish to join us as a Single Day Visitor please contact Heather Thomson for special info.
For more information, please visit our website at http://cbwc.ca/event/gathering/ or by calling our Calgary office at 403.228.9559.

Pastor Paul is fortunate to be able to spend part of his vacation time with CB Ministries’ Pastor’s Education Mission Trip to Cuba from May 24 to June 1. The cost for each participant is $1900. If you would like to support this mission trip, you can do so through your offering, designated to Pastor’s Education Mission Trip, and your funds will be forwarded to CB Ministries. Check out the website at www.cbmin.org for more information.
One of the changes we have experienced recently is instead of having both the doxology and an offering prayer, we have done one or the other. This initiative is based on the concept that the doxology is by nature a sung prayer (as are all of our songs). Through the doxology we acknowledge that every blessing comes from God and he is worthy of our praise. By making this minor change, we can also create space in our services for new features and practises to arise.
On Sunday April 19th, we will have a “new” experince called the “Altadore Informal”. Many of you remember the days of adult electives and we are bringing it back! Instead of having a worship service, we will be meeting in the gym at 10 am for an opportunity to choose between 2 electives. This will be a chance for everyone to engage with others in their church community, in meaningful conversation about spiritual topics. (There will also be a space provided for personal silence and prayer.) This experience is about us encouraging and supporting each other in our spiritual walk. Prepare to be challenged and changed!
The Maundy Thursday evening service on April 2nd, led by Joyce Peasgood, will be reflective and contemplative. The service will begin at 7 pm and will focus upon the last hours of Jesus’ life as recorded in the gospels. Included in the reading of the Scripture texts will be opportunity for silence and prayer. Thus, we will be invited to enter into the suffering of Jesus before his death.
Please note that there will be no childcare provided.

We acknowledge that the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta, on which we stand, is the ancestral traditional land of the indigenous people, and we are grateful for their stewardship of the land and their hospitality which allows us to live, work and serve God, the Creator, here together.
ThE land we meet on has held God's worship since god first formed it. We are grateful for God's gifts from this land that nurture us, and for the many who have nurtured the land before us.
We recognize the pain and turmoil that has come with the settlement of this place, acknowledging now our role in bringing God's healing peace through relationship with the land and all its diverse peoples.
We affirm our pledge for justice, for peace, and to make our church a place where all people, regardless of labels, are welcome to experience the true love of our Creator God in authentic community.
